Mourning Because of Our Sins and Others' Sins

Matthew 5:4.  Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

As we have a look at the meaning of this Beatitude, I’m reminded of the charge to all Believers to give Glory to God by praising and adoring His matchless name rather than seeking to defend oneself from accusers.  It’s always an ugly scene when a Believer is accused of something by another person and he/she is ridiculed and demonized without having an opportunity to defend such accusations. Yet, from an earlier blog, we learned how futile our efforts to defend can be! 

Think of Christ and what He experienced, nothing could be more agonizing than what He went through from His tormentors as He faced death on the cross.  Yet, He did nothing wrong, personally, to deserve the treatment He received.  While the Lord admonishes the Believer not to seek vengeance, because it belongs to God, He charges the Believer to focus on developing a SPIRIT FILLED life instead.

Do we as Believers ever mourn because of our sin?  Yes, even when you are falsely accused and demonized as a Believer, an ungodly reaction is not justified.  And if we do react in such a way, God is not glorified.  And so, if you have ever reacted poorly to wrongful accusations, now is the time to confess and agree with God that you acted sinfully.  Diligently seek the Holy Spirit’s leading to lift you up from Satan’s pull and be carried into the waiting, protective arms of our loving Savior.  When it seems as though there is no love coming from anywhere, we are then in a great position to experience the love of Jesus and our Heavenly Father.

Let us admit that we are spiritually bankrupt and poor out those tears of repentance to God, thanking Him for His Son, the Lord Jesus, through whom we have ETERNAL LIFE.  Remember, our citizenship is in Heaven, not here on earth.  I again refer to Dr. Constable who states, “The promised blessing in this beatitude is future comfort for those who now mourn. The prophets connected Messiah's appearing with the comfort of His people (Isa. 40:1; 66:1-3, 13). All sorrow over personal and national humiliation because of sin will end when the King sets up His kingdom and the repentant enter into it.”  What a joy the Believer has coming for him/her!
